In 2029, Revolution Day falls on a Monday, giving many a long weekend.

About Revolution Day

Revolution Day (Dia de la Revolucion) commemorates the start of the Mexican Revolution on 20 November 1910, when Francisco Madero called for an uprising against the long dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. The decade-long conflict reshaped Mexico, overthrew the old regime and led to the 1917 Constitution that still underpins the modern state.

Under Mexico's calendar law the holiday is observed on the third Monday of November, creating a long weekend. Schools stage parades where children dress as revolutionaries such as Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, often with sombreros, cartridge belts and painted moustaches. Cities hold sporting parades and civic ceremonies, while banks and government offices close.
