In 2028, Liberation Day falls on a Tuesday, so the Monday before is often taken as a bridge day for a four-day weekend.

About Liberation Day

Italy's Liberation Day (Festa della Liberazione) is a national holiday on 25 April that marks the end of Nazi occupation and Fascist rule in 1945. The date recalls the partisan uprising of 1945, when the National Liberation Committee called for a general insurrection against German forces and Mussolini's collaborationist republic as Allied troops advanced. It has been a public holiday since 1949.

The day is observed with official ceremonies, wreath-laying at war memorials and marches organised by partisan veterans' associations, above all ANPI. Cities and towns hold parades, concerts and public gatherings, and the anti-Fascist resistance anthem Bella Ciao is widely sung. The President lays a wreath at the Altare della Patria in Rome, and streets and squares fill with tricolour flags.
