In 2025, Republic Day falls on a Monday, giving many a long weekend.
About Republic Day
Festa della Repubblica, Italy's Republic Day, is celebrated on 2 June and marks the anniversary of the 1946 institutional referendum. On 2 and 3 June that year, Italians voted to abolish the monarchy of the House of Savoy and establish a republic, following the fall of Fascism and the Second World War. It has been a national public holiday since 1948.
The main ceremony takes place in Rome, where the President lays a wreath at the Altare della Patria to honour the Unknown Soldier, followed by a large military parade along Via dei Fori Imperiali. The event closes with the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team trailing the green, white and red of the Italian flag across the sky. Public gardens and palaces open to visitors nationwide.
