In 2025, ANZAC Day falls on a Friday, giving many a long weekend.
About ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day, observed on 25 April, honours the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who landed at Gallipoli in 1915, and all who have since served and died in war. It is one of the most solemn days in both nations' calendars and a public holiday across Australia and New Zealand.
The day begins with dawn services at war memorials, timed to the hour of the Gallipoli landing, followed by veterans' marches, wreath-laying and the sounding of the Last Post. A minute's silence and the recitation of the Ode of Remembrance are central. Later, many gather to play two-up, a coin game traditionally permitted only on this day.
